I just wanted to see if I could shed some light on using stock images in
siggys as the tube. If you use a website like Renderosity or Official
PSDS, you cannot use those tubes in their as-is state UNLESS there is a
copyright for that image. If you use an image as a REFERENCE to create a
tube, then you may use yourself as the copyright information.
Example:
The blond Siggy Showdown exlusive was made from an image from Official
PSDS. I took a photo and drew over it, and added the parts of her head
that were cropped off by who ever tubed the photo. I would NOT be able
to use that photo stock here in its as is state because there is no
artist to attribute the credit to.
The reason why all our tubes
HAVE to have a copyright is, we invite tube artists here to be a part of
the forum. And we want them to know that we respect artists rights and
will give appropriate credit to whoever drew or photographed our tubes.
If an artist were to join and see siggys without any copyright, they
might think we would pirate their work (which we wouldn't, but they
don't know us to know better).
Long story short.
If you want
to use a Renderosity, or Official PSD file, and there is no copyright,
and you don't do anything to/for it to make it unique, you can't post it
in this forum. One of the mods will most likely delete it out of
respect for whoever took the photo, drew the pic. And by "make unique"
that doesn't mean adjusting levels, or hue.
If
you use an image and the person who provided the image allows it to be
used as is, you MUST give them the appropriate copyright.
If you use
a promo picture, as in promo photos released by HBO, NBC, Paramount
Pictures etc, you have to give HBO the credit in the copyright.
All
previous rules about not using cartoonists work without their permission
applies, as in we don't have Matt Groeing's permission to use The
Simpsons renders, so we can't make Simpson siggys.
These rules
are CC (copyright compliant) forum specific, and do not always apply
across the board in say Cafemom or some other website.
